Sloppy joes

This is not high cuisine, but it’s good, it’s quick, it doesn’t use any unnecessarily processed foods, and I can make it from what’s likely to be in my freezer and pantry at any given moment.

    • 2 tablespoons oil
    • 1 pound ground turkey (preferably dark meat)

Brown the turkey in a large skillet.

You could use beef here, of course, in which case use something without too much fat and reduce the oil to a tablespoon at most.

    • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar or red wine vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • dash hot sauce

Add and cook over medium high heat until the onion softens, about 5 minutes.

    • 1 14-ounce can tomato sauce
    • 1–2 tablespoons tomato paste

Add. Reduce heat to simmer and cook another 5 minutes.

  1. Serve… well, I assume you know how to serve sloppy joes, but whole wheat buns are nice.
