Seasoned salt
No MSG here, just spices and salt. The mace and celery seed tie this squarely to 19thcentury England and AngloAmerica, which is where blends like this originated. Commercial blends and chemical additives have given seasoned salt a bad name, but it’s every bit as good a multipurpose mixed seasoning as chili powder or “Cajun seasoning” or garam masala.


 [frac]1/4[/frac] cup salt
 1 tablespoon paprika
 [frac]1/2[/frac] teaspoon granulated onion
 [frac]1/2[/frac] teaspoon granulated garlic
 [frac]1/2[/frac] teaspoon turmeric
 [frac]1/2[/frac] teaspoon mace
 [frac]1/2[/frac] teaspoon finely ground black pepper
 [frac]1/2[/frac] teaspoon finely ground celery seed
 1 teaspoon dried thyme, pounded and sifted
 dash cayenne

Combine all. Store up to 6 months in an airtight container.
